This is an edition of the archaic Tocharian B manuscript PK AS 12 from the Pelliot Koutchéen collection of Paris, which contains fragments of a theatre play about the life of the Buddha from ca. 500 CE. While the Buddha's life is a well developed genre of Buddhist literature, no dramatised text is attested anywhere else. Due to the fragmentary state of the manuscript and the difficult and unusual style and vocabulary, the interpretation of this text is challenging. This is the first edition, presenting the text with thorough commentaries and notes, and a wealth of contextual information.
